I actually never considered just getting a better job. I guess I won't need this sub anymore

Such excellent points. Nepotism and having "connections" or wealth is a huge element of nearly all capitalist success stories..and the particularly irritating thing is that the people who utilize these connections and their wealth tend to front like it was just good ol' fashioned hard work that brought them their success. I live in Los Angeles, and have lived here my whole life. Neither of my parents work in the entertainment industry, but I grew up/went to school alongside crap tons of kids whose parents/families did. Now that we're all grown, an impressive percentage of them have stayed here and followed in their parents' footsteps. They may have altered the gig somewhat (e.g., their dad was a successful stuntman, they're pursuing acting) but the nepotism is always there. And they all will post bullshit on social media acting like they busted their ass to land this role or this prestigious job while not even mentioning in passing that connections played a HUGE hand in it.

One of my favorites was a girl whose boyfriend's dad was successful in the industry. The boyfriend worked doing background stuff on a TV show (he got consistent work through his dad's connections); his girlfriend, a newly moved-to-the-city transplant, ended up getting a job on the SAME show, clearly through him. She made this ridiculous, pseudo-inspiring post a few years later talking about how she moved to L.A. with no job and no plan, but she got her job soon after moving, is doing great in her role, and proved everyone wrong who doubted she could make it out here. Not a single mention of the boyfriend who essentially got her the job. I actually laughed out loud because it was so absurd. This was probably the strongest example of this I've seen, but I still see it all the time - nepotists fronting like hard work is solely responsible for their success. I just hope that someday the brainwashed simpletons like the ones OP posted about realize this. It's rarely ever just hard work. But that's the pretty capitalist lie we all get spoon-fed.
