[Adrian Wojnarowski] Sources on @TheVertical: Orlando interested in Cleveland GM David Griffin, who's without a contract for next year.

Is that really an accomplishment? It's not even remotely a challenge to tank and he had nothing to do with the Cavs getting pretty lucky with the lottery balls bouncing their way. Especially for the 2014 draft where the Cavs had only the 9th worst record and were the 10th seed in the East, yet they got the first overall pick. There's no way he pulls off that Love trade without that pick.

A much better way to judge him is what he did with those picks. Two of the first overall picks were great even if they were pretty obvious (Kyrie and Wiggins). The other first overall pick was the biggest bust in NBA history. I get that it was a weak draft, but he could've gotten Oladipo/Otto/Noel. I won't mention players like Giannis and McCollum because that's kind of unfair as they're only in contention for that pick with perfect hindsight. As for his two other top 5 picks, one was good since Thompson is still probably the right pick (again, it'd be unfair to include Klay or Kawhi because that's all hindsight) while the other one was only okay as he could have gotten Lillard instead of Waiters.

My point is I think Griffin is a good GM, he's been extremely fortunate. I just don't think he's some insanely great GM who'll easily turn the Magic around.
