Goenka retreats

Perhaps just to stir up a bit of polemic, I'd say that using the particular technique taught there naively to bring about a fulfilling frisson (pi: pharaṇāpīti) might be a bit like sweeping an entire store with a broom to clean up the vomit on aisle four.

For those who've never attended one, roughly speaking, the brass tacks of the technique taught in the Goenka 10-days can be broadly split into four distinct tactics: 1) touch-of-breath focus, 2) inch-by-inch skin scanning, 3) point-to-point body penetration and 4) spinal column ascension. If it were up to me, the third (and maybe even the first two) would be replaced by one I'm developing that begins by taking advantage of the relatively dense bundles of nerves in & around the gums of the maxillary and culminates in an 'activation' of the area about the thymus.

I call it "literally parimukhaṃ" mindfulness.

@/u/funkyjives et al.: I'd be curious to find anyone interested in helping to codify a robust protocol for this technique actually..
