Advice on being an effective teacher?

I’ve never taught but had plenty of teachers. One thing all my good teachers have had in common is that they’ve spent many hours teaching. I do think that the “over explaining” thing goes away with experience.

The teachers I’ve had that weren’t good.. well I’d say they were inflexible. If a students body doesn’t contort a certain way, don’t force it, work around it. If a student is struggling with a certain technique, try a different approach.. there’s not one single or right way. (I imagine if you took lessons with Manuel barrueco for instance there would be a single, right way which is his way, but he’s not teaching beginners. He’s teaching the best in the world. There’s a huge difference.)
