Advice on how to get gud for a gamer returning after a long hiatus?

Gaming mice and keyboards won't make much of a difference, no. Especially at the level I assume you're playing.

Keep practising, and watch how really good players play on YT and Twitch, as you already do. But at the same time, don't try and copy everything they do. Sometimes what "works" for them, won't work for you.

Dunno if it helps, but turn off mouse acceleration whenever possible. This is frankly helpful in most games. Sometimes higher graphical settings might obscure important details in whatever you're playing, so perhaps play around with that an little?

I never played PUBG, but in most shooter games, I find it helpful to keep the cursor over where I anticipate where the target is moving towards, rather than doggedly keeping it over him.
