Advice on a small plastering job!

Yea. If it was for a customer and in a potentially steamier area like above a kitchen worktop I would pull that whole piece of plasterboard off up to ceiling or coving and replace it with one continuous piece rather than having a join. This eliminates the risk of different rates of expansion and contraction between areas of block with dabs and those with bonding and any of thst future movement causing cracks etc. If it was for my own house I’d just dab a piece in, skrim tape the join and multifinish it after denzo tape and plastic shielding for cables. Also can’t tell from the photos if it is an oak worktop or just laminate. If it is laminate and I couldn’t tell if the back edge had been waterproofed properly I would be careful not to let that edge get to wet during the making good.
