AFI-Halloween

[–]caseyfoor 19 points 27 days ago  Congratulations, you've made me an AFI fan. Thanks. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]alsobrante 23 points 27 days ago  Listen to the discography in chronological order. That way you'll maximize your enjoyment (but this way you'll also maximize your disappointment towards the end) permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]604 10 points 27 days ago  This is so true. However, if you don't hate yourself, just stop after The Art of Drowning. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]MissedHerPink 14 points 27 days ago  Sing the Sorrow is great, if you're into melodic punk and you're not expecting their old material. everything from Answer That - All Hallows is their prime imo permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]I_Am_Jacques 3 points 27 days ago  I had never heard anything by them except miss murder, and then i checked that EP out. Kicked. My. Ass. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]MissedHerPink 3 points 27 days ago  Yup. Amazing shit. It's crazy how they were able to evolve so much within the 90s but still stay raw. I guess it was only a matter of time before they released some sub-par shit. Check out everything before All Hallows too if you haven't. So underrated. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]BaddestBrain 4 points 27 days ago  If you don't go into them expecting "Classic AFI" you might actually find that the four albums after Art of Drowning are really good in their own way. Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground are both really competent post-hardcore albums, Crash Love is a great alt rock / pop rock album, and Burials does really well with it's industrial/post-punk/alt rock sound. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]alsobrante 6 points 27 days ago  I liked Sing the Sorrow, but I was biased because I was heavily into AFI in those days and I would listen to anything they put out, BUT, things changed after mainstream girls started to say "they LOVED Davey" and that "he spoke to their souls" or something like that.. I never gave Decemberunderground a chance (years later I did, and that album sucks donkey balls), I listen Crash Love and TBH I kinda like it, but it never got into my listen everyday playlist... When they started to promote Burials I got exited because the promo pics were dark and serious, I was so wrong.. that album SUCKS too. I am pleasantly surprised with XTRMST and that album did got into my every day playlist permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]miss_marshwiggle 4 points 27 days ago  Some of Sing the Sorrow was ok, but definitely not punk/hardcore. So long as you listen with that mindset, and don't expect another AoD, there's some good bits in there. The spoken word piece is pretty haunting. I liked the B-sides, like Synesthesia and the Head Like a Hole cover. The 336 picture disc that came out just before STS was pretty good too, Now the World is one of my fave songs of theirs (although if you literally hate yourself, it's not the best one to listen to). permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]caseyfoor 2 points 27 days ago  Ha ha. I'm thinking about decemberunderground permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Eyedoless 9 points 27 days ago  Old AFI is pretty rad. Totalimmortal and A Single Second are awesome tracks. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]kingfirley 12 points 27 days ago  True story. I once interviewed Davey Havock at an AFI show. This was shortly after he started his Danzig-esq band Son of Sam. Anyway, I introduce my self and start to conduct my interview. The first thing he asks me is, in a snarky voice, "You aren't going to ask me any questions about the Misfits are you?" Jokingly I said "Actually most of mine are." He then stood up and yelled "INTERVIEW OVER!" and then tells me to leave. I told him it was just a joke and showed him my questions. It took some convincing to get him to calm down and do the interview. Every question I asked he just replied "Yes" or No" in an assholeish way. I stopped the interview and left. For a guy that tried so hard to be Danzing, he should take a fucking joke like that and not turn into an asshole. After this I couldn't get myself to listen to them again. Davey is a dick. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]MissedHerPink 3 points 27 days ago  Never meet your idols. I'm guilty of that too though. I met Hunter and Adam after a show. They were cool, but they just seemed really awkward and like they didn't want to be there at all. But I chalk that up to just playing a show and being jet-lagged. Davey and Jade didn't come out to talk to fans. Definitely not near the worst of experiences. I was psyched just to meet them, but it kind of dropped them down from the pedestal I had put them on in my head. I've heard mixed things about Davey. Some fans have great experiences with him, and others similar to yours. But I've seen him being nice to fucking TMZ paparazzi! I dunno. I always try to separate art from artist, but I could understand how an experience like that could change things. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]OfficerMudkip 3 points 26 days ago  You were expecting a wannabe Danzig to not be an asshole? permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]kingfirley 1 point 26 days ago  I really don't expect anyone to be an asshole before I meet them. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]bigbagofballs 1 point 26 days ago  i've met davey on three separate occasions and none of my experiences line up with yours. super nice, happy to meet fans, signed shit, etc etc. not saying youre wrong, not saying youre lying. just simply sayin'. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]hotvomit 9 points 27 days ago  Oh afi. I need to go listen to the art of drowning record now. It's been too long. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]chigish48 0 points 26 days ago  If You permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]rattarded 2 points 26 days ago  I've always enjoyed this version of Halloween ... my first band covered this version. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]paregoric_kid 1 point 27 days ago  Love this cover! permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]DanNeverDie 1 point 27 days ago  One of my favorites. Just got it on orange vinyl a week ago! permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]jellyboy33 0 points 26 days ago  you misspelled miss murder permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]vinylwhiskeyesq -4 points 27 days ago  A half-rate Misfits cover. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]I_Am_Jacques 16 points 27 days ago  Honestly i'm a pretty big misfits fan and i think this cover really does it justice while keeping old AFI's style. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]poultrygeisttt 10 points 27 days ago  I'm a big misfits fan and I think It's better than the original... permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Haindelmers 3 points 26 days ago  I think any fans of the Misfits that hate AFI are just people who know its not "punk" to like a band that has changed its style. I'll bet that most of them haven't even heard a single song from AFI's first 5 albums... permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply
