Homophobia in the black community is ridiculous. I believe it has to do with religion, but nevertheless as a gay black man I've had my share of insults thrown my way from people of the same skin color. I also don't think they agree that being black and being gay, as far as being a minority and facing discrimination is the same. They feel that being black is something they cannot shed or pretend not be, which is true. However living in the closet is just a horrible because though you can make everyone else believe you're not gay you can't fool yourself. In any case, I think a large portion of the black community, the hip hop lovers are just plain ignorant. They will stand up and protest police officers for shooting a black kid, but won't protest a black kid for killing a black kid. They have a reverse racism mentality, where they are always the victims, when in fact they are the problem. They create this world where black people are known to be violent and stupid, and listening to the music you'd think they enjoy being ignorant. I know racism affected this country for a very long time and the effects of that period still linger in certain aspects of our country. However, BLACK PEOPLE HAVE COME A LONG WAY SINCE 1964, and need to start acting like it. Obama is proof that this country is willing to stand behind a black (mix) man, or at least the voting majority.
