After 3 months, countless hours on the phone, and150 bucks, this is how I got my computer back from Lenovo. Thanks...

Well first, a B575 is crap. It was a disaster even the day of it's release, it has no resale value whatsoever and pretty much everything inside is average to low. A client of mine had issues with the Wireless card in it and we had to change it, and i'd say the laptop is a serious mess. All the hardware feels cheap.

I don't mean to be mean but this is a pretty rookie choice when it comes to a laptop. Also, no manufacturer will "really" service your laptop. They'll always try to avoid because they don't employ people to do these jobs really, and they are slackoffs. Look at Apple, if your MacBook has an issue and you're under warranty they just trade you with a new or refurb. If you can't service your laptop yourself you have to find some friends or a local shop to do it or else the manufacturer will enjoy scamming you. They are all the same at this point really.

To help you out i'll tell you what i did and hope it will help you in your future laptop purchase. All prices are quoted in CAD and at the time of purchase the CAD was still lower than the US but not as low as today.

If you want high quality laptops for low price you have to look at the ThinkPad line, simply because the business industry buys so much of them and get rid of them fairly soon in their life cycle. Professionally used laptops usually comes in great conditions even when heavily used. In august 2014 i purchased a used T420 off eBay for 430$. It had better stuff than the base model (It had the 1600x900 screen instead of the 1366x768, Intel 2520m with vPro and the nVidia GPU) I upgraded it's ram to 8GB for 40$ and installed a 120GB intel 530 series mSata SSD for 130$.

Totalizing about 600$, in august 2014, i had the premium from 3 years ago with it's maximum specs. I am still currently using the device right now (as i type this) and it's very fast. Also, Lenovo released an updated battery with the same form factor, so i upgraded from a 55+ to a 70++ for about 70$ afterwards (earlier this year), giving me about 2.5x battery time i had.

Pretty much the only way of getting something decent under a thousand USD is to get a used laptop ThinkPad.

Also, i have to mention the serious ThinkPad lines (X, T and W) are built with very high quality material and it comes with good stuff like the trackpoint and a really good keyboard (I still have the old design :) <3 ). Nothing on this laptop has broken yet and i use it everyday (I'm studying computer science in Montréal) and since it's a widely used device, the Linux support s really on point. I run Arch Linux and every interfaces on the laptop works perfect and i am not planning to change the device anytime soon.

Hope that helps you.
