After coming out of a committed relationship I’m realising my male friends aren’t all they seemed

Excellent point, save for one fact: the currently prevalent dating ecosystem renders your approach impractical on single women.

A guy who through blind luck happens to be at the right place (Tinder or physical) at the right time with the right looks and attitude, may very well get the date (and therefore a shot at a potential relationship) rather than the romantic and patient suitor because let's face it, this whole dating business is optimized for instant gratification just like everything else.

Got your downvotes ready? Here goes. Men, if you seek romance, do as @raeliant suggests but seek a girl that is already in a not-so-great relationship — In such a setting, you only have one suitor to contend with, who is already doing poorly. (I wooed my wife this way, YMMV)
