Airfares are currently out of control. Example: Melbourne to Sydney eight days from now. Cheapest = $332. Lots of them around between $500-$700. ONE WAY

It's out of control.

We booked flights a few months ago for an OS holiday - despite all the horror stories and media I still think it's important to support Australian jobs so tried booking with Qantas.

Unfortunately QFF started at $10K, and while I was watching the flights they climbed to $12K. I booked that day for $8K return with Singapore Airlines.

I forgot to turn off my fare watch alerts and watched in horror as over the next 2 weeks the same QFF flights climbed to $12.5K --> $14.4K --> $16.8K --> $21.5K --> $25.5K. For economy return for three people. Insanity.

Part of me thinks it's stubborn price gouging, part of me wonders if they really don't have enough planes for the demand at the moment.

Either way a lot of families won't be getting together this Christmas, which is very sad.
