The pat down thing I get... The actually checking my bags because I am carrying stuff I shouldn't be... Never...
Back in 2010? I think...
A flew to Angola to film the building of a road in the middle of nowhere... I knew I would not be able to find the batteries I need for our walkie talkies in country or charge the ones I normally used correctly all the time. So I brought a ton of regular disposable AA replacements. Border in LA, Stopped in NY, London, South Africa landed in Angola... I wasn't stopped about the batteries until south Africa ... We are talking a lot of batteries. It had to look like I was a lunatic for carting those around. Used every one and need more on the job site before we were done.
10 radios, 4 batteries a day for 2 weeks... You try explaining away 540 batteries walking through customs all wrapped up in a bunch of plastic containers.
