AITA for asking the cab driver to continue driving after he found out his brother was going to jail?

YTA.

In other comments you say that it’s mid afternoon, so unless you’re in a very shady part of town, walking wouldn’t have been dangerous for you. I’m also assuming that the weather was good, or you would have probably mentioned it as part of your defence. So there’s no real reason in regard to the weather why you couldn’t have walked.

Whilst yes, the fare was paid, some things are more important than a very small amount of money. 241 Indian rupees is £2.61, or $3.39. You put someone who just found out some very bad news in a tight spot for about $1.60 since he’d already driven you half the way, you were only losing half the money you paid.

The man is clearly having a hard time, and you made things worse instead of showing him a little compassion when it was very easy for you to get out and walk 10 minutes. It would have cost you $1.60.

I’d understand if it were expensive, it were raining heavily, late at night etc. But it wasn’t. Have some compassion and human decency. Apparently providing someone with a small comfort isn’t worth $1.60 to you.
