AITA for bringing up the fact that I don't want kids?

NTA

Your body, your life, your right to decide.

But on another matter here...

At this point you must know what your parents are like on certain matters... right? So... ya... why willingly go down that melo-dramatic discussion road with them?!

Sounds like you initiated this whole blow-up, as you stated above, "I tend to butt heads with my parents every now and then. Recently, I brought up the fact that..."

When it comes to social situations / relatives / colleagues like that, I NEVER willingly volunteer controversial thoughts to them--in fact I hardly reveal any personal information at all, if anything to people like that.

They just can't be trusted to have a normal debate, so I keep the topic on other matters.

And if they somehow lure me down an avenue of controversial discussion that's getting dramatic real fast, I use humor to obviously change the subject in an over-the-way, like:

"Hey... how about those New York Yankees?!" and other various cheesy stock jokes like that, which I pre-plan in advance.

In the end, we end up laughing rather than yelling.

Finally... if things have progressed passed the point of no-return in terms of the other party resorting to drama, yelling, and anger...

Then why not just take the high ride yourself and say something to the effect of:

"Well, you might be right: maybe I'll change my mind about kids when I'm older! It's certainly a big decision, so it's not something to be taken lightly..." etc...

And just leave it at that!?

It'll make your parents feel better, and avoid all that yelling.
