We are the masters of our own ship, you are and she is. The one thing you can not hitch your star to is attempting to get someone else to grow and change with you, if they do great. If the woman never communicates back, tries to grow, works with you, you can grow to grow.

Take it from a fellow man that did not communicate well, when you start to understand where your feelings and thoughts come from (mindfulness) it changes everything in your life. Now in my 40's I totally understand that I could have learned some of these lessons earlier in life regardless of what woman was in my life. Ergo, the ball is always in your court.
