Aita for for changing my personality when speaking to a transgender?

NAH

THAT BEING SAID THOUGH! Be careful.

I have two friends. One who is a trans woman, who I knew before she “came out” and began dressing feminine etc. So when she did start doing these things, I noticed my linguistic style to her changed like yours did: I became much more “omg I love your dress, you look so cute!” or “yessss girl xxxx”. Normally I do not talk/text like a 13 year old girl, but I did with this friend. She either didn’t notice/didn’t care (though side note, it did get superrrr awkward when she started sending me dick pics and this was when I realised that maybe she took my inner 13 year girl as flirting, but that’s another story....)

My other friend is a trans man. Here’s where there was an issue. I began to refer to my friend as “dude” or go “hey man”. I figured I was being supportive as my friend had a lot of issues with “passing” as male and was very self conscious about it. But one day, he says to me straight: “when you call me dude, or man, I feel like you’re not being sincere and that you’re singling me out”. Because to my friend, I didn’t do this to others and so it came across as disingenuous and that I didn’t actually consider my friend to be male.

Lesson learned in both cases.
