AITA for having my wife return the gifts she bought for our unborn grandchild?

NTA - Parenting rules aside (which are weird by the way) the fact that she belittles and insults your wife is enough in my opinion to say NTA, and it’s clear you’re wife feels the same. And you shared your opinion on the matter to her and why that concerns you in a logical manner. She made the decision to return them and I’m glad for you all. I truly hope your son comes around on his behavior. Yes, parenting has a lot to do with how a kid turns out, but your kid knows right from wrong and is surprisingly entitled but that may add up to what you said about your wife ‘liking to buy peoples love’. She may have coddled him a bit too much.
