AITA for not backing a girl up when she said she dresses for herself, not for guys?

Imma break this down for you, chief. One can distinguish between ordinary and extraordinary claims. The "Sagan standard" says that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

"I saw a cute dog on the way to work today" is an ordinary claim. There are lots of cute dogs and it's not unusual to see one. It would be weird to respond to me saying that by demanding evidence. On the other hand, "I saw a UFO on the way to work today" is an extraordinary claim, and you would be right to doubt that based on lack of evidence.

You treated her self-report on her own motivations as an extraordinary claim. It's weird. It's like she said, "I enjoy going to the beach because I like the feeling of sand between my toes," and you responded, "I have no way of knowing whether that's true or not." You should have just treated it as an ordinary claim and taken her word for it.
