And maybe figure out whats up with Ryan there, particularly why he felt he needed to do these things. It might be illuminating as to his character and personal philosophy.

Did he genuinely think she couldn't handle herself and it was on him to "protect" a woman in her own home in which she clearly has survived living in for many years?

Does he derive some sort of validation and pride from his "altruistic reputation"? Are you maybe overlooking that it's more the norm than the exception that he "helps where he isn't needed" and just walks through the day patronizing people left and right (and if so potentially whether the people he infantilises have something like race, gender or income level in common).
