AITA for not paying rent in cash to my parents?

YTA, hugely.

You’re paying way below market price, and have been living for free before then. You’re 26 and have paid off all your student loans and are now able to save for a house. Your parents have been generous AF and allowed you to set yourself up in a really nice position.

For reference, I’m 27, still have $11k in student debt, and am currently paying down the last bit of a $5500 credit card debt I occurred from my younger years when my rent was about 45% of my barely-above-minimum-wage income and I had to depend on it more than you’re supposed to in an ideal world (including a few emergencies and shit so I get this is not a universal thing to be in that much debt, but still, hard for me to sympathize here). The point is, when you were in your late teens, you were paying off student loans at a time when a lot of people your age were finding the idea of having a savings account laughably impossible.

Yes, yes, your parents are so well off that your $300 is fun money that they can just blow and that’s irksome. But they have used that they are well off to help you exponentially.
