AITA for physically removing a tourist’s hands off an Ancient Greek statue?

if the statue was that delicate they'd have it placed well behind a barrier

Lol no honey, we aren’t talking about the US here. I was in a museum in Athens 3 weeks ago, they don’t have barriers around anything except pottery and the literal ruins of where people lived below the museum. That’s how every museum in Greece was.

However they do take keeping the statues safe very seriously, you have to go thru two security screenings and no purses or backpacks are allowed because you might bump into a statue and destroy it.

Fun side note, there were 6 statues of a 7 statue series on display, the 7th was on display.... in the Louve. And the museum said they were very reluctant to allow the statue to be moved because one of the 7 had already been destroyed. And they were behind no barriers at all, anyone easily could have touched them if they really wanted to.
