AITA for refusing to have Christmas dinner with my family because they are noisy eaters?

YTA.

I also cannot stand the sound of people eating. Makes me want rip my own hair out.

But ultimately, it's not a debilitating illness. The internet loves to trot out the phrase 'misophonia' whenever this comes up, but that's not a recognised medical condition.

This is something you can manage. You don't need to get in a rage over the sound of people eating. You have the capacity to control your emotions.

There's about a hundred things you could do to still visit your family for Christmas. Including, not staying to eat or having a nibble and then excusing yourself while they're pigging out.

Longer term, you can use meditation or CBT to help you manage your emotional reactions and then ask your family to do things like playing music during a meal.

So, in so far as your reason for not spending time with your family is weak YTA.
