AITA for refusing to pay my brother back for "damage and lost income" when the kids I were baby sitting set off a can of bear repellent (mace) in his Airbnb? To me he left something very dangerous in the reach of kids.

ESH

Your brother left out a weapon, he's lucky the kids were not injured because you both would hold responsibility.

You brought kids you were watching to his home and didn't actually watch them.

It's unreasonable for him to expect you to cover three months of rent. He can clear out the house and now rent it, it may not be a long term rental but again, he could have saved it easily by renting them a hotel room, getting a contractor or housekeeper out there to fix things but instead he just gave up and lost the rental. He can now post it again and if he fails to do so he's forfeiting his rental income and expecting you to pay it.

You should have offered to pay for the hotel and the cleanup. It was your fault.
