AITA for rescinding the punishment my husband gave my son

Yeahhhh. My stepchild's mother has had to come in and "protect" her child because over the years according to her he has "opened up" to her about our tyrannical household. Making him sweep his room and change sheets. Take out trash when asked. In trouble for lying about completing homework, helping him learn tools to help him get on track only for him to go to her house for 3 weeks (1 being spring break) and coming back 18 assignments behind. And we are the total assholes and abusive and its our fault he didn't do his homework at her house.

The child is an awful narrator. Once asked about his stepbrothers he went into great detail about how they live with their mom the last 2 weeks of summer because they need to adjust to school schedule and shit. Come to find out that's not true at all and when we were discussing it with the BM (we wanted to do our summer time during that period), she told us it was us mishearing the story and SS wouldn't have said that.

Maybe this 10 year old is the more honest or remembers things more accurately than the 7 now 13 year old in my life, which is totally possible, but I watch on the daily this kid lie and play his parents so that he gets in minimal trouble for his shitty behaviors.
