It's about whats best for the family and fairness but he wants whats best for him only which is very unfair to his wife. And its about responsibilty. To demand an expensive vacation when money is tight is just irresponsible.

Its about "There's no I in the word team". Which you seem not to get. And he maybe neither.

But what many don't get "there's a U in the word failure"

So he can make it work for the three of them. Or he can make them fail. With being egoistic, irresponsible and unfair one little idiot can make the best team fail. Simple as that.
