AITA for smoking in the hall of my apartment?

NAH

University is a stressful time, and you would be the exception if you and your roommate coexisted in complete peace. The last "college roommate conflict" story I read on here was about a young woman whose boyfriend cheated on her with her roommate and then she had to weather out 10 days before she could move out where the disgustingly overly amorous new couple were doing and selling hard drugs out of the place. She ended up sleeping in her car.

That being said, as tame as this is, you should really be going outside to smoke. I do chainsmoke, and I do it exclusively outside. You have the right to smoke, but you do not have the right to expose others to smoke because it's harmful. If there is some obstacle with where you'd smoke outdoors at home you don't want to deal with such as a lot of stairs or a crowded street, the middle ground is any of the 10 smoking alternatives that exist.

Vaping, chewing, dipping, candies in some countries, patches are awesome if you haven't smoked in a while, lozenges, gum, those minty strips that dissolve in your mouth, nicotine inhalers, or a dedicated leaf tobacco vape (magic flight boxes are actually an attractive way to vape, built to stealthily smoke other leaves so there's no smell or obnoxious clouds).
