I have the feeling OP simply did not get into the exact details of why her spouse returned to court. I don't know if OP is in the US, but family courts here vary from state to state on what is deemed admissible evidence. Attorneys in my state don't typically advise this unless they think they have a decent shot at having their argument heard.

Furthermore, your suggestion that OP is "trying too hard" makes no sense unless you think the family therapist working with them is a moron. Within the first hour of intake evaluation, a competent clinician would have suggested a completely different treatment protocol. They would never conduct family therapy under the impression OP and her spouse were responsible for fabricating a psychological conflict.
