AITA for telling my mom I wouldn't really be part of my disabled sister's life?

I think it’s two very different things, the N word is definitely a term that originated as derogatory. The R word was a word founded in Latin to describe a medical condition (which is commonly accepted the majority of those diagnosed were dyslexic or suffered brain damage) and not those with a low IQ, now the requirement to be classified as IDD. Compared to the N word which was invented to be a derogatory version of Negro. Retardation is also a common term in other sectors of society, ie music (only using the full word since it’s referring to something other than a person), from the Italian retardo, to slow. There is nowhere that the N word is acceptable.

I’m not saying the use is correct or even acceptable. But as someone who once would have been classified as an R word, I think it’s very important to not pretend it’s the same as an exclusively derogatory term.
