Y’all can you just take a moment to see this from Geraldine’s perspective. This is a woman in her early twenties who lost her father, whose mother was a victim of domestic abuse, and whose mother is now showing signs of basically one of the most disturbing diseases on this planet, likely putting her in the position to be her mother’s caregiver for years to come. I absolutely do not excuse violence and bullying, but OP’s comment about the bully’s dead mother was disturbing and likely triggering for Geraldine and then a complete dismissal of Geraldine’s current situation, years after the act, as OP dumps her trauma on Geraldine. (They have therapists on speed dial - no maybe Geraldine had a shit ton of her own stuff she’s working through…) Reminder, Geraldine was not the bully… and we don’t actually know any other sides of the story here. I’m writing this from someone who has actually been on both sides here, a relentless high school bully who my friend later dated, and a mother with early onset dementia whose father has passed. To be very clear, the trauma of having a mother be diagnosed with early onset dementia was infinitely more traumatic for me and OOP doesn’t even stop to consider where G is at in her life.

This is the first time I’ve radically differed from most comments in one of these posts and it’s kinda disappointing. OP doesn’t seem to have taken even a second to acknowledge G’s trauma. She definitely hasn’t been a good friend to her…
