Don't overthink this. If you're going to try to look like somebody and they're black, then a good start would be to make yourself black and vice versa. Yes, there is well meaning blackface. Except I wouldn't call it blackface I would call it makeup. If I wanted to be Dennis Rodman for Halloween and I hired a motion picture professional makeup studio to make me look EXACTLY like Dennis Rodman (my favorite basketball player), would you say it's racist or it's a bad-ass costume? If you say racist, we'll have to agree to disagree. If you say bad-ass costume, then blackface is only racist if you haven't done the makeup well enough? That doesn't seem right either. Intent matters. Somebody's skin color is a key feature of what they look like. If Al was made to be white this would be a better costume... Doc was white. And if I can't dress up on Halloween as my favorite basketball player because I'm white... that's racist.
