The very article that started this whole thread is about conservative policies driving young, college educated people away from their home states.
Most of the jobs held in conservative states were those quickly automated away. Regardless of red or blue, those jobs were going to be lost to automation. One of the results of automation is that as these jobs were lost, more people flocked to the cities and away from rural areas. All of this was going to happen when automation came, red state, blue state, or not.
