Alasdair Gold - “A piece on today's mess and how the next Spurs manager must be allowed to give the club a damn good shake by those at the top. Players need to leave and change must happen. Tottenham Hotspur needs inspiration, not more of this.”

Poch had Tielemans offered to him on a platter and refused because it was a loan (that we know now would have been made permanent), refused to sell Eriksen when he would have gotten 60+m for transfers and Eriksen said he wanted out, and has all sorts of weird transfer stuff like not having a list of b targets and not accepting players unless under the exact conditions he wants. If you read the meeting notes from 2019 it talks about it. This is as much his fault as anyone else’s. He left the place in a mess, and ultimately that’s part of what doomed Mourinho. He doesn’t fix messes, he turns good teams great.

I love Poch dearly but he really lost the plot the last two years in terms of overall club health and the fact that we’re having to do this painful of a rebuild without a trophy is pretty damning. He sacrificed the long term competitiveness of the club for his very narrow vision. Levy is of course not at all blameless and should be held to account as he’s still the chairman but Poch is a big part of our current struggles, just as much as he is our recent success (which unfortunately is notably trophyless)
