Now whether he's gotten his position all on his own is a different question. Chomsky has spoken how bias in media is often about the type of people that are allowed to be in certain positions: “I'm not saying your self censoring. I'm sure you believe everything you're saying. But what I'm saying is that if you believe something different, you wouldn't be sitting where you're sitting.”

I believe he's probably where he is as a natural result of the vacuum left by the MSM. He's an extremely useful conspiracy theorist archetype that helps discredit some real stories but he's still likely there naturally.
