Alexandre Pato 2015/16 "Amazing Skill Show", looks like he's still got it.

There were numerous lower level teams after Kagawa when he was playing at Osaka. Then Klopp and Dortmund picked him up for next to nothing and helped turn him into a very good player. What about Lewandowski? That player who's only claim to fame before joining Dortmund was smashing in goals for fun in the Polish league for Poznan. Imagine Klopp going for a player scoring for fun in the Polish league. Most of our fan base would have a stroke.

I don't really give a crap who their suitors are or who they play for. What I give a crap about is (a) whether they are players who fit Klopp's system, (b) whether Klopp can work with them and help them benefit the overall team regardless of age and (c) do we need them.

  • a - he has the attributes required of a Klopp striker. He's mobile, he is adaptable and can play on the wing and he makes runs out wide whilst also dropping deep to get involved and link up.

  • b - if Klopp signs him, unlikely as just media speculation at this stage, that's a sign that Klopp believes he can work with this guy and help him become the player we need. That's enough for me.

  • c - do we need him? Yes. We lack a mobile forward given Sturridge's constant injuries and its evident to anyone that Benteke is not working as he doesn't suit the system. So we either change the player or change the system to suit one forward. I'd rather we spent a modest £11m on someone who if flops, we can shift on at a minimal loss instead of being burdened with an expensive flop no one wants.

Age is just a number. Its aptitude and attitude that matters, and Pato has shown signs of maturity during his time in Brazil, even if he does still party like many other players, whereas someone like Balotelli is still a straight up man child, and doesn't have the right attitude or aptitude to become a useful asset in the team until he wises up, if he ever does.
