[All episodes] A hopefully rational discussion of Felicity Smoak

She has come up with plans where not only her, but the entire team should have been killed, given the information they had. Her being there has reduced the impact of the action that follows. She also has redefined her values, her life, and twisted it around her emotionally distant/abusive ex-boyfriend.

But its cool, she is headstrong, that is why she is able to stop a weapons search with a sentence. Its cool, she can hold her own in an attack on an enemy fortress, when her job was better done by her remarkably chill exboyfriend that just gave her his company, and owns a supersuit. She just drugged the man she slept with, its cool, she somehow has the moral high ground, and convinces that smuggling her boyfriend, and his sick sister out of enemy territory, when their entire reason why they are there is that same sister, in a method she knows can work because she has seen some cartoons. She can mourn Oliver with said sister, and its cool, tell her that she planned her boyfriend's apparent death three weeks earlier, because she is understanding like that.

Love/relationships don't need to be arm twisting drama, you can even include it, and have the people act like adults who have been in more then one relationship in their lives. When I am more emotionally invested in a romance between two zombies in a show with under ten episodes then I am about the so called "end game" in a show I have been watching for a couple of years, something is wrong.

Keep in mind, it is only Season 3 Felicity I have any issues with. I used to like her character, and that is why I have such strong feelings about her. I now mute her scenes, just how poorly they are written, and I seriously am questioning whether or not I am giving up this show this year. Fuck, Skye, who could be argued as the embodiment of the same Mary Sue tropes has more then her fair share of character development, backstory, and relevance to Agents of SHIELD, where it all made in the story, was written (and acted) well, where she is one of my favourite characters in that show.

Also, don't get me wrong, other characters/arcs have been written poorly. This is just a rant focused on Felicity. I am still upset at Ollie/Digs assault on the League for Merlyn. I am still upset that after so much pain with keeping secrets, and consistently getting called out on it, characters fall into the same fallings. Maybe this show is not for me, and it just required other comic book shows to show me the reasons why. When I am ambivalent to most aspects of the show, and actively hostile to one (Olicity), where just last year it was all hype, and excitement, it is a sad thing knowing a show I cared about, I may stop watching after next week.

End Rant.
