Alright gun people

The real question you should ask is "Shouldn't it be time to talk about changing the 2nd amendment?"

Asking people to justify why they NEED to assert their rights is a loaded question.

Why do you need free speech? Why do you need to be protected from cruel and unusual punishment? Why you need to practice Judaism?

These are dangerous questions that only lead to a degradation of civil rights. You are creating the burden of justifying the assertion of someone's civil rights without asking the proper question about the underlying policy.

I hope you understand the way your phrasing of the issue is not as productive as you'd like it to be. The right to bare arms is a civil right. In our country it is immortalized in the same grouping as a right to free speech, travel between states, etc. Your question touches on an issue that is far bigger than gun control; it is premised on the idea that it is okay for people to demand that fellow Americans justify the lawful assertion of their rights.

My question to you is: Why should you be allowed to transfer the burden of justifying gun ownership when you seem to have a sophomoric understanding of our nation's founding documents?

Discussing the 2nd amendment is called for, but your framing of the discussion is insulting to the other rights we enjoy. Perhaps you should lay out a justification for repealing the 2nd amendment instead of asking others to justify their lawful ownership of extremely popular arms.
