Alright mates.... rip it apart. [MBTI is meaningless by VOX]

Okay so Rant time: Whenever I see a video either encouraging or dissing the idea of MBTI and they mention Carl Jung they NEVER seem to give a fuck about his actual theory which is the functions and their relationships together ect. I mean thankyou for telling us that we can be either "Thinker/Feeler, Sensor/Intuitive, Introverted/Extraverted and Perceiver/Judger" I mean if we could only be one of the the two categories then of course any sane person is going to call bullshit as people are more complex. The first obvious contradiction to that idea is that everybody has feelings and a rational side so that's already wrong. However if you and you're fancy video making crew spent some time actually researching instead of working off the obvious you would realise that in Carl's theory of functions (which is what mbti is built upon) states that humans have 8 cognitive functions and we all use a balance of 4 consciously as our preference which believe it or not include both feeling and thinking functions as well as (you'll never believe it!) intuitive and sensing functions. As for the other 4 less preferred functions, we can all access and use the other 4 really whenever, if the situation calls for it, if it's been manifesting itself or developing unhealthily due to life circumstances ect. Type is really just about how you generally function and your preferrance. It's meaningful as its a theory that tries to explain how humans perceive and judge the world in a system of cognitive functions, and call me a fan but by my standards it's a fairly accurate one. If you understood the theory then you would realise mbti could actually be quite helpful in a deeper sense. Say you finally figure out your type by doing some fucking introspection, research and understanding of the functions, and maybe a few tests just to be sure. Now say you do the test again in 5 weeks after some stress and get a different type. INSTEAD of saying "0mg test is bs, can conf1rm keep getting different results" you could sit back and speculate as to why you might have received those results and find a lot of the time you can not only find the reasoning behind it, but since you've just spent a bunch of time introspecting you can usually FIX the problem and resume to your preferred way of functioning or "normal" self.

Personally I just get super fussed over these type of video's making massive assumptions like they're facts. YES generally speaking a lot of people like the test because it gives out good descriptions however it's still relevant to the type because I doubt say an ISFJ would enjoy or relate to the ENTP description.. but regardless a lot of people take the tests and enjoy finding their type due to actual interest in the theory and themselves. Yes it can be fun and used as a means of catogorising others, but I think the true meaning and purpose of it all, (which is actually says somewhere on the site) is for the individual. It says you don't even have to share your type if you don't wise to, and you know what? Some people might laugh and speculate "oh if they don't want to share their type they probs got something bad" which firstly is a terrible assumption as if you know the person and are friends with them their type shouldn't be an indicator of whether the person is good or bad and secondly, if you think about is seriously, sharing your type is basically the same as sharing how you function and your possible weaknesses which people can USE against you if they're malicious enough. For example finding out somebody is say an ISFJ. You would firstly know 1. they are mainly introverted so if I wanted to fuck with them I'd keep inviting them to parties or big events, causing them to either 1 constantly go out of their way or 2 cancel, leading to social dissatisfaction at constantly feeling they may be missing out. You would also know 2. They use Fe as their main judgement function so lets play into their sympathies and get what we what via emotional manipulation as this type would be more susceptible to it. 3. they use Ne as their inferior function meaning they have a very strong preference to their own personal experiences and may not welcome new and changing experiences outside their control or comfort zone? ho ho ho jolly good lets re-arrange their rooms and plan a trip to Canada for tomorrow.

That was fairly off topic and I think at this point I'm just rambling but basically MBTI is a fairly good test for indicating your type, and I think finding and understanding your type is meaningful and it's also a good way to understand and empathise with others. I think the functions manifest themselves differently in every individual, especially ones of different or say opposing types, but even those of the same type will have varying levels of preference, varying levels of strength in personality, different life experiences and their own personal experience. Every person is difference to the next in some unique way however people who relate to a certain type are most likely to find familiarity and understandment in other people who also relate most to that certain type.

Thus it does have meaning and this video did not accurately talk about the actual theory behind MBTI. It was definitely under-researched and made massive assumptions. General statements without further backup doesn't equate to a good argument for a cause and so by trying to say something as drastic as mbti being meaningless without full understandment is just invalid really? Idk if that's the correct word but either way this video just annoyed me because they didn't seem to actually know what they were saying and said shit that was just straight up incorrect. The points about people having varying levels of introversion/ extraversion, individuals being complex and jungs quote on how everybody is an exception to type was correct however if the fools had looked into the theory and taken on a better perspective they would have realised that is all recognised and covered in MBTI (or atleast by Jung anyways). MBTI should be used by the individual and really when it's used by companies, it probably uses other sources of information as well and so in those cases is hopefully the companies gathering as much statistics and information as possible in the hopes of assigning people to places they will preform well in. However I'm no company so I have no idea. I think I covered enough of my ideas in this rant thing, idk why I haven't deleted it all and just continued with my day. Probably because I'm passionate af about this all and so this video just made me die a little with how much it lacked.
