Alternative ADHD treatment options?

I have relatives with substance abuse disorder, ADHD/ADD, and have been informed of this by others, as well as doing personal research to try to find what I thought was the best treatment option. One thing I see widespread-ly is that those medications can especially damage those things in people without a need for them, and though I feel like I fit the classic profile and doctors have wanted to diagnose me there is a huge stigma around self diagnosis and suspicion of having ADHD due to the nature of the medicines used to treat it, and I’m afraid that I would take too high of a dose or not actually need it even though I think I do and fit the profile and then permanently hurt my brain. The quickest way for you to see some information yourself would be to search “adhd medicine dopamine long term effects study” or “adderall long term effects study”.
