I remember a comment on Reddit from many years ago that has always stuck with me. An Israeli said that right after WW2, Holocaust survivors were often looked down on by richer Jews because it was seen as "low class" to get caught up in it. Apparently, if you were rich and well connected you would have been able to escape, so only poor and middle class Jews ended up in the concentration camps! Now I don't know if that was actually true, but that was how people thought. We even look down on victims of genocide, because they must be poor.

The people who have the least suffer the worst atrocities. Sometimes it's hard to have any faith in our species.
