I always wanted to be a mother

Thank you /u/[a_sack_of_hammsters], it could honestly be either of these explanations. I wanted it to be ambiguous so that the reader can pick whichever alternative they prefer.

If you choose the second one, there is a part in the story after the narrator "drowns" her baby where she recalls people coming to her house. I imagined this being a cult, and her husband being a part of it (like in Rosemary's Baby, as someone said). They decided to hide the baby so that she would be better protected by them, in a safer place.

But then again, if you choose the first alternative, all of this is caused by the narrator's illness and none of it actually happens, including the last paragraph.
