I am 16 years old is there any mistakes any of you older people made as kids that you can help me avoid?

Don't give into pressure. Learn to stand up for yourself. Sure, I'm talking about what you're taught in school about peer pressure and drugs and all. However, pressure from anyone is a given and should be seen with caution.

When I was your age, I was a doormat. I feared conflict, I hated making people upset because of something I didnt want to do or say in the first place, and I was afraid of letting go for fear of being alone. I was afraid to stand up for my own because I believed I need to put others before myself no matter what.

While it is a good thing to put others before yourself, you should take priority in most cases. By this I mean if you do not want to do something, say so. For example, your friend wants to get wasted at a bar. You're uncomfortable with that but you dont want to disappoint them. Say that you dont want to do that because you're uncomfortable. If they're upset, too bad so sad.

If you're comfortable with something, put others before you. If you're not, put yourself first. That's my motto.

As a teenager, you are still learning. It is okay to make mistakes. But please start building self confidence because there are a lot of people who will either intentionally or unintentionally bring you down in more ways than one. Find your voice and stand up for yourself.
