I am an ENT surgeon working in a German hospital. Ask me anything!

I had a balloon inserted into my sinuses and the ENT cut out some of my nose with something that looked very much like the things dentists use to suck spit out of your mouth but apparently had a blade on it. The procedures were supposed to help open one of my nostrils which is nearly closed shut. It actually helped for a while but over the last year or year and a half it feels like it is pretty much closed up again. Judging from the x rays beforehand he said that my nose had been broken at some point in my life and that is why it was nearly closed on one side. It was surprising to me because I dont remember ever breaking my nose. I used to drink a lot so my best guess is that I did while blacked out or maybe it was an injury from when I was a kid and I somehow don't remember. I did not have the courage to ask but could cocaine be the cause of one nostril closing? I used coke probably twice a week for nearly one year. That wouldn't make it look like a break on an x ray though would it?

The reason I got referred to the ENT was because I complained to my doctor about frequent headaches, especially when waking up (not just hangovers, on days when I didn't drink before haha). Doc suspected TMJ due to sleep apnea and sure enough I have it severely. The CPAP machine helps quite a bit but not entirely. I actually haven't had a drink in about 6 months but I use kratom daily and codeine once or twice a week. Would you agree that doing non IV opiates are better for you than alcohol? I feel a lot healthier these days. My stomach used to hurt daily and my liver would feel like it was bruised most of the time too when I was drinking hard.

Thanks for doing this AMA, you have some really interesting things to say.
