Am I being scammed?

I can't say for certain if this is a scam or not, but by a quick google search it sounds like some kind of pyramid type marketing scheme.

According to amazon the book, "Explains the revolutionary business of network marketing in context of what makes any business a success in any economic situation. This book lends credibility to multilevel marketing business, and justifies why it is an ideal avenue to make money."

They may be nice people, but to me it sounds like they are trying to reel you in by getting to know you, planting a seed in your brain by having you read this book and then at your next meeting they are going to try and pitch you some product (maybe even the book?) to sell/ recruit people to sell.

I still don't know what exactly it is they do.

I think this kind of answers it. If her husband really did have "work for you". He probably would have said up front. Hi I'm X I work at Y company and we are looking to fill Z marketing position. My wife told me about your conversation and I am interested in discussing your qualifications. Just my 2 cents.
