Am I dumb to think there's still a way to save my job in this scenario?

I worked as the manager of a small marketing agency for 5 years after leaving school and got taught by my boss on a daily basis who has been doing it for like 30 years, I used to be an advisor for SMEs, the turnover could be anywhere from 0 a month to 100k+ a month in online sales. so not huge companies but this one I'm working with right now isn't either.

I don't really have a job role right now to be honest, I kinda do a bit of everything including the technical work, but my background is entirely sales and marketing. My boss said originally the goal was to build a job around me and see what I like doing most.

We had somebody working on the strategy but they are gone now, since it wasn't working, which is why I've kinda nominated myself to take their place because I think I could make something work.

If you are wondering how I end up in this situation with a lot of experience then I'm not really sure, I just like working with small businesses and I live in an area with little opportunities and this one sounded cool so I wanted to give it a go
