Am I eligible for a malpractice suit?

As the automod said, malpractice is way beyond the scope of this sub. Go ahead and consult with a medical malpractice attorney or two to get a better idea. I'm also not an attorney of any sort, though I work in the legal field and see a decent number of medical malpractice cases.

The foreign body thing is not likely to go very far, I think. You generally can only recover actual damages (though exactly what and how much you can recover varies by state, which is why you're supposed to include that information), and it doesn't sound like that caused any major problems for you. It's unpleasant and I get why you're upset about it, but even if you have recoverable damages from it, they're probably not enough to worth suing over. Medical malpractice cases, even straightforward ones, are expensive to litigate. Usually those foreign body cases you hear about are situations where it requires another surgery to correct the issue, and/or where the foreign body caused an infection or other issue that created big problems.

You may have a stronger claim for the lingering pain and other issues, although that is going to depend on how much the cut exacerbated your existing condition, whether you exacerbated things by returning to coaching too soon, etc. No one can advise you on that without a lot more information than would be appropriate to share here.

I'm sorry this happened to you, and I totally understand why you're upset. I just want to prepare you for the fact that medical malpractice cases are not easy, though it does sound like a complicated enough situation with enough potential damages that you should to talk to an attorney. Consults are usually free so you'll just be out a little bit of time.
