I am a hunter hoping to hunt on local farmers' land. How would you prefer a hunter approach you about this?

I have no problem with that at all. See some of my other comments - I don't just want this to be a "Okay, I hammered boards over some broken barn windows for a day and now I get free run of the place". I want to build relationships and friends, not just business agreements.

I don't know where you are, but I am totally down with helping out on a ranch, regardless of hunting. I was born on one then moved away when I was very young, but I still remember hanging out with horses (shoveled a few stables), chasing chickens (mostly for fun, but also getting eggs), and stacking hay. If you're within 4-ish hours of Denver and have a reliable internet connection (I have some work responsibilities but can work from almost anywhere), PM me. If it's within 6-8 hours, there's also a place I can sleep, and you don't mind my wife and baby tagging along, PM me as well. :-)

The reason I was focused more on professional services (photography and web site design/development) is because I have skills that are usually pretty expensive for folks, and I thought they might be worth more than just helping out for a few days. I volunteer for some nonprofits like Make A Wish as a photographer rather than as an usher or manning a table because otherwise they'd spend thousands on another professional. But if someone prefers just helping out, it's fine with me.

It's not just about hunting. I've never hunted before. This is all new to me, and I'm just trying to approach it correctly. I'd much rather have some friends than a bunch of places to hunt. I can hunt all over my state, plus surrounding states. I'm not hung up on deer and elk; I can learn to hunt on rabbits and coyotes for a while and be happy... in fact, that's what I plan to do in order to ensure I can aim accurately and ethically whenever I do start hunting big game. But if I decide hunting isn't for me, I'd still like to have made some new friends; I don't have very many since moving to CO. Most of mine are back on the west coast, and we don't talk much anymore.
