Am I missing something in Romancing Saga 2?

I'm having trouble with the difficulty curve in Romancing Saga 2.

After another one of those '200 years later' screens, it skipped to a new generation. The problem is, now for some reason enemies in every area have been significantly buffed as well. Before, battles were very easy, but now I can barely clear most battles. Someone will always die, after some enemy decides to hit them for 500 with they only have 300 HP.. I will also often get overwhelmed often in plain random battles and get game overs seemingly at random.

Since everything is this hard now, not sure what to do. Just keep attempting to grind on these difficult enemies, and keep making new parties when I wipe? Or is there some tip or trick I may be missing that will help lighten the difficulty here?
