I am set to inherit a multi-million dollar, mismanaged small business. I have no idea where to begin.

Welcome to the club! Do I read this as you have already inherited it or you will after your folks pass away?

At least you dont have siblings to contend with. I have a couple that do not want to do anything past the bare minimum. Its a weight on my shoulders.

Just offhand, I would say find a good accountant. If you find out you dont like your accountant keep looking until you find one you like. Then, find a second accountant to monitor the first accountant :)

I would also slowly build a team of trusted people and create an advisory board. Not a board of directors, but a group of people that you pay $1000 each (or whatever amount you deem acceptable) and meet quarterly, twice a year or even once a year to help sketch out the future of the business. This could be successful people you might know like relatives, friends, friends of friends, etc. Also consider mentors on SCORE.org.

Good luck! I'll follow and read comments and when I get off of work LATE tonight and pour a whiskey after a LONG day I'll add some more input if I can.
