I am thankful to grow up in a free country

I am thankful to live in a free country. Growing up in one is arguable.

Every day I live with the realization that fascists fucked my country over, and also every individual citizen in it. I think people who care too much about something as irrelevant as being able to visit statues, or whether statues even stay up are profoundly coddled whiners. Obviously none of these people have immediate family who were kidnapped by the government death squads, electroshock tortured to death and them dumped in the railyard to be gnawed at by rats.

Anyone who is willing to worship at the authoritarian totem pole is worthy of pity, because they obviously have no idea what is coming their way, whether it is a Soviet council or a military junta.
