I am tired of the "Drop everything and leave" advice constantly reinforced to suicidal people.

I think you are taking this advice too literally....

Drop everything and leave is common advice to people who seem to be situationally depressed. The idea is to get out of the situation you are in.

Now I am going to disagree with the last part of your post. There are opportunities around. You just have to try. If you can't get out of where you live because of financial reasons, go to the nearest place that is hiring and apply.

I know, I know, this does not guarantee a job at all. And many people are having issues finding employment even post-grad.

You need to say FUCK THAT.

Keep on them. Take a bus everyday if you have to, but show you are committed, interested and willing to work your ass off.

Once you have a stable source of income you have done the ground work to establishing your network. You immediatly know those you work with, and if you are a good worker and a good person odds are they will be willing to help you out at somepoint.

Save money....

Literally do not do anything except eat, sleep and work. Buy only the necessities. It will suck. But you can do it.

Once you have worked and saved for about a year. You then need to start volunteering. This is where your opportunities truly come from. Find conferences, events and places that successful people frequent.

Talk to people there. Anybody.

You say there aren't any opportunities to people without money or connections, that's why you have to make them.

The inequity of men is defined by one's own success.

YOU can be successful, YOU just have to want it.
